Well, welcome, Helen Dryden, 2014.
Well, welcome, Helen Dryden, 2014.

I’m very pleased to announce that I have recently been awarded the first Creative Industries Trafford Visual Arts micro-commission, devised in partnership with Castlefield Gallery.

This means that I will be exhibiting my new paintings at Waterside Arts Centre in Sale from Saturday 31st January 2015 – Saturday 28th February.

There will also be an exhibition launch event, on Friday 6th February, 18:30 – 20:30, and free tickets are available here:

The show is called  Boom, shk (g’dit-g’dit-dat)

Phonetic: the ubiquitous drum breakbeat of the UK 90s rave scene
The 17 paintings are inspired by found internet video footage of the UK rave scene in the 1990s. Figures emerge from swirls of colour, gurning, hands in the air, totally lost in the music: half-ecstatic, half-zombie.
I use drawing and painting in my work which features bright, psychedelic colours, patterns and semi abstract figures. I work instinctively from found imagery and from my imagination; motivated by ideas of visual pleasure, utopian worlds, alternate realities, escapism, democracy and humour.
