For a few weeks now I’ve been working on some new paintings that are inspired by video footage of magicians performing magic tricks or illusions involving some sort of staged harm to their glamorous female assistants. ‘Sawing a woman in half’ is the trick that captured my imagination the most, as it seems that there are so many versions of this trick performed all over the world.
I’ll write more about my interest in this area as I progress with the paintings, but for now, here are a few pictures of recent works in this series. They haven’t been titled yet, so are just ‘painting in progress’ until I decide!
I tend to post images of my paintings in progress on my instagram account, so if you want to see more of my developing works, have a look at https://instagram.com/helen_dryden/
As for news about the group show I mentioned in an earlier post- yes, that’s going ahead! There will be a group show curated by myself and Fred Pepper, in Leeds in October. We’ve just been offered a great space to hold the show in, in Leeds city centre. More news about this too, later!
